The Forty Rules Of Love By Elif Shafak explores the life of the famous mystic poet, Rumi and his spiritual teacher, Shams of Tabriz. The book revolves around the the forty rules of Shams of Tabriz, which I think, are the best source of guidance(after the Holy Quran) anyone can get. The forty Rules teach us to love not only our Creator, but also his creation. They teach us to respect the people around us no matter who they are and where they come from. They teach us to look for faults within ourselves before blaming and judging others.
"Real filth is the one on the inside. The rest simply washes off. There is only one type of dirt that cannot be cleansed with pure waters, and that is the stain of hatred and bigotry, contaminating the soul. You can purify your body with fasting but only love can purify your soul."
